The first award was given by the Society to Prof. (Dr.) Bhudev Sharma the leading information theorist of India. Prof. Sharma has contributed a lot at University of Delhi. His key areas were measures of information, functional equations coding Theory, Rate Distortion Theory Sampling Theory and Questionnaires theory.

The second award was presented to Late Prof. J.N. Kapur, Ex. Vice Chancellor of Meerut University and the leading information theorist. Prof. Kapur has really applied information measures to many areas.

The third award was given to Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Tuteja, Rohtak and Prof. (Dr.) Prem Nath, Delhi University, Prof. Prem Nath main contribution is on functional equations.

The fourth award was presented to Prof. (Dr.) B.K. Dass, University of Delhi. His main contribution has been to coding theory.

The fifth award was presented to Prof. (Dr.) D.S. Honda, Pro-Vice Chancellor Kuru Kshtra Univ. and presently Prof. of Mathematics at Jaypee Institute of Engg. & Technology, Raghogarh, GUNA, M.P. His main contribution is toward measures of "useful" information, functional equations and presently his interest is in Fuzzy measures of information.
